Heroes in Harness – The Heavy Horse

29,90

When horsemen get together, horses soon become the chief topic of conversation. The chemistry of enthusiasm is built in. When this happened in the cas of Philip Weber and Stanley Jepsen, the result was more than conversation. Mr. Weber had the illustrations – as fine a collection of photographs of horses at work as may be found anywhere – carefully accumulated and arranged over half a century. Mr. Jepsen had the subject-matter experience and publishing background, reflected in his two previously published books about horses. The authors had a common dual purpose: to recognize the debt society owes the workhorse and to cultivate the respect that is due him.

This has been admirably accomplished, for Heroes in Harness is not just a picture book. While the fine selection of photographs – about 200 of them – does provide a nostalgic review of our domestic history when it was primarily agricultural and animal oriented, the text and photo captions make the book an experience requiring only a little imagination to capture again the sounds, smells, and feel of many of these flashes of equine history.
